Pupils from Castledown School are broadcasting ‘on air'.
After several weeks of training provided by community radio station Castledown Radio, as part of an after-school activity, young people put together their own radio shows to be broadcast on Castledown Radio's ‘Lunchtime Radio Club'.
The programmes are airing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 1-2pm with a mixture of chat about hobbies and school, plus music old and new as chosen by the youngsters themselves.
They learned various aspects of radio production, supported by Castledown Radio staff and volunteers, including how to write, record and edit links and build a half-hour show ready for broadcast.
Castledown Radio Station Manager, Baz Reilly praised the students for their effort, saying "I'm delighted at all the hard work these young people have put in to create their shows and everybody at the station is very proud of them. Music is a great medium for youth development and we've given them the chance to be heard and express themselves through their own choice of tunes and chat."
Tune in to Castledown Radio 104.7fm to hear the programmes or go to http://www.castledownradio.info/ for more information.
