Bin collections resume
Limited bin collection services restarted today (January 7) following recent disruption due to the wintery weather.People whose household waste bins are due to be collected tomorrow or which were due to be collected today or yesterday should continue to leave them outside their home.
Wiltshire Council restarted collecting today where it is safe to do so and will continue to do so providing there is no deterioration in weather conditions. However, given the current weather conditions, it will not be possible for the 26-tonne collection lorries to travel on many residential and minor roads and collections will resume in these areas as soon as it is safe to do so.The council will continue to work towards reducing the collection backlog which may take several weeks to fully clear.
People do not need to worry if their bin is not collected for a period of time as when there is a catch-up collection all the household rubbish will be taken.Unfortunately, collections of recyclables, plastic, cardboard and garden waste continue to remain suspended. People are being asked to keep hold of any of these types of uncollected waste and put it out again at the next regular collection. George Batten, corporate director for environment, said: "The current wintery weather has unfortunately meant we have had to suspend collections during the past few days and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. "We are now resuming a limited collection service of household waste where it is safe to do so and would ask people to bear with us as we work to reduce the backlog from the past few days."
