During her talk, Mary highlighted the following:
- In April this year, KDC will extend its black box and garden waste recycling services to 100% of the district. The Council wish to encourage residents to contact the Council and order a wheelie bin if they want to be part of the service when it begins in April.
- There will also be another new service set to begin in July, which will see 33,000 homes in the district receive a black wheelie bin. This will replace the traditional black sack approach that has been in use for the last 15 years.
Kennet currently operate an exemption service for the elderly and disabled, which allows for assisted collection from the back door for both the black sacks and the recycling boxes. If people think they may not be able to cope with the new black wheelie bins because they are too difficult to move, please contact the council who will organise an assisted collection.
-Plastics are big problem in the Kennet District and the Council says they are currently looking at ways to providing different pick up methods in the future. This could mean the introduction of a bring site, which will compliment existing bring sites of glass and textiles.
The Council offers a variety of exemptions. If you think you may require assisted collections or additional bins, contact the main Council office on 01380 724911 and ask for an exemption form to the service. A Council officer will then visit the property to ascertain any problems.
