THE CHALLENGE IS ON TO RUN 10K TO BEAT CANCER
The
men and women of Wiltshire are being challenged to get out in to the great
outdoors and take part in Run 10k for Cancer Research UK.
Run
10k opens for entries today at www.run10k.org/local
and it has been confirmed that the event will return for the fourth successive
year at Bowood House on Sunday 21st September.
Scott Renken, Run 10k organiser for the
Bowood House Run 10k, said: "Cancer
affects so many people and joining the Bowood House Run 10k is a great way to
support them by raising money for Cancer Research UK's work to find new ways of
treating, curing and preventing the disease."
Run 10k for Cancer Research
UK, supported by Tesco, is a
series of 41 events held in stunning and unique locations throughout the UK
this autumn. This year Cancer Research UK
is hoping that 50,000 men and women will come together to raise just over £5
million to help Cancer Research UK
beat cancer.
The Bowood House Run 10k event
will see 800 people taking part to raise more than £47,000. Bowood
House is a magnificent stately family home and the beautiful grounds and
points of interest will make for a great day out for the whole family.
The
charity spends millions of pounds every year on research in Swindon, where
patients with a type of blood cancer called mantle cell lymphoma are being
recruited for a national clinical trial. The researchers are investigating whether
adding a new drug, rituximab, to the standard chemotherapy treatment will help
to improve survival.
Scott
Renken added: "I hope that the people of
Wiltshire rise to the challenge of taking part in Run 10k. It is the perfect opportunity to get into the
great outdoors and raise money to help beat cancer. We need local people to take part and raise
money to help us continue our life-saving work.
This is why we're urging people in the Wiltshire area to come and join
us.
"Running 10k is an
achievable challenge for everyone with some training. Why don't you challenge your friends and
family to take part with you?"
