Up to 500 children from thirteen primary schools in Tidworth and the surrounding villages are expected to take part in the annual Tidworth Primary School Sports Festival at Tidworth Leisure Centre on Tuesday 13th June.
The sports included in this year’s festival are girls’ mini-soccer, boys’ mini-soccer, high-5 netball, basketball and athletics. As part of the festival each school is offered free coaching in the sport of their choice from the ones on offer at the festival. The coaching is provided by local sports clubs and Tim Dunford (Community Coach), who also help to organise and run the tournaments at the festival.
Also involved in the action are students from Castledown School and Avon Valley College who gain a valuable insight into work within a sport and leisure environment.
The event commences at 10am and culminates in presentation of prizes and awards by the tournament leaders at 2.45pm.
The Primary Schools Sports Festival is often the first large scale-sporting event many children will take part in and the focus is very much on the fun and excitement of participation. This positive introduction to sport leads many children to join the junior sections of their local sports clubs, which in turn leads to healthy recreational activity for our local children and young people.
