In 2007 Tidworth Area Festival managed, with the support of Barclays bank, to raise a small amount of money that has been donated to local school projects.  £1,400 has been dispersed to the seven schools in the area, each receiving £200 to benefit their students in non-core activities or projects.

The presentation of the cheques took place on the 31st March at Tidworth Development Trust Offices. Each school was asked what the donation would go towards in their school. All of the projects that the money will go towards were very different and very exciting from new stage lighting to a pupil kitchen.

Castledown School has decided to give the money to their newly established Eco Club. They are in the process of reaching their ‘Bronze Award’ with an emphasis on saving energy and the recycling of paper. The donation will go towards paper bins being installed in every classroom.

Clarendon Infants will be using the money to develop multi-cultural awareness. “In June we are having a special fortnight when we are learning about India and are having visitors in to teach us about music, dance, food, fashions, art and customs from this country.” - Anthea Turner, Head teacher.

Zouch primary school will use the money to equip their new pupil kitchen. “This is a ‘hands on’ training facility to promote culinary skills and encourage healthy eating. The money will be used to provide child friendly equipment which will be an asset to this facility and the surrounding classrooms.”  Pauleen Lawes, Acting Head teacher.

Clarendon Junior will put the donation towards purchasing a computer programme called Microlibrarian. “The program is used to track books as they are borrowed from the library and to show existing stock. This will enable us to update books more efficiently and monitor and encourage the children’s reading.” – Alex Bostock, Head teacher.

Castle Primary School are using the donation “to pay for a camera inside a nesting box; the camera is linked to all our interactive whiteboards so that if a blue tit or other bird does choose to nest there, the children will be able to follow the progress of the eggs and chicks each year that the box is used. We are extremely grateful to the Tidworth Area Festival for supporting school projects.” Andy Bridewell, Head teacher.

Tidworth Area Festival will return in 2009 with an exciting and vibrant festival over 3 days and on a new site.
