T2a Club delivers activities for Tidworth youth PDF Print E-mail

It is not always easy trying to find something to do in the school holidays, but thanks to Tidworth’s T2a Club, there will be plenty to do during August.

Anybody aged 11-17 can consider themselves very lucky, as T2a puts on a feast of activities to get stuck into, including: mountain biking, climbing, kayaking and skateboarding - just a few of the things on offer for young people in the Tidworth Community Area (TCA) - all at a cost that leaves you enough spending money too!

Kennet District Council Youth Development Workers, Clare Draper and Tim Dunford, head up the T2a project and recently attended the final performance of another leisure activity run by the club.

For the last 10-weeks, a unique dance project has been taking place – culminating in a special end of session performance by local youngsters, who, to an invited audience, displayed their newly found 'Streetdance' skills at Castledown Sports Centre.

The issue of bullying was addressed in the performance, as they played out emotions and expressions, through some fantastic dance moves.

“These children need something to focus on – and this project has really worked. Some of these young people couldn’t even dance, but have come away having had lots of fun and now being able to dance and express themselves,” said Clare Draper.

Supported by Tidworth Development Trust and Kennet District Council, T2a is able to function thanks to a cash injection from the Big Lottery Fund.

Fifteen year-old, Hayleigh Coppin took part in the project, she said:
“It was really fun and different, I couldn’t dance before, but this club has really helped me and I will definitely take part in the next one.”

The T2a scheme has been created in response to various consultations, which identified the need to provide activities for young people in the local area and aimed at young people aged 11 to 18 year-olds.

If you would like to get involved in the T2a Club, contact Clare Draper on 01980 847140 or 01372 514382 or pop in to Tidworth Leisure Centre (TLC).
