Residents were requested at Ludgershall Residents’ Forum, to pass on their views if rumoured plans go ahead to abolish the post of Section Commander from the Tidworth Police Station and move many of the uniformed police officers to Amesbury.
Steve Lawton, Chief Executive of Tidworth Development Trust raised the issue at the recent Ludgershall Residents Forum. “I would be concerned if the sergeant is taken into Amesbury, leaving Tidworth with no dedicated commander for the area. The message has to go back that we don’t want this to happen,” said Mr Lawton and all present agreed.
Police Constable, Chris Spackman, who attended the event, said he was not in a position to comment on the subject and suggested views should be given to a higher level than him, but he said he would pass on the feeling of the meeting.
Meanwhile, police also announced that Ludgershall’s new Community Policing Team, which was due to be put place by October, has now been delayed until January 2007.
The team will eventually be based at Ludgershall Fire Station, but delays in refitting the building have temporarily disrupted earlier plans.
