Saturday 6th October - Rubbish Clean Up Day (9.30 - 12.00)
Tidworth & Ludgershall areas are going "Rapping" later this month. "RAP" as in "Rubbish Awareness Project" is a community event to run concurrently between Tidworth and Ludgershall areas targeted at raising the awareness of the many aspects relating to rubbish in general.
The project has been devised to educate and encourage local people to try and take some interest and pride in their area. It is a "10 day" programme leading up to a Saturday Morning ‘clean up’ from the ‘hot spots’ within the two community areas.
The "10 Day Countdown" to "Rubbish Saturday Clean Up" has a separate daily theme which is set as an idea for the schools and for ‘Others’ (Business, Organisation, or Individuals) to effectively review their own ‘Refuse’ policy.
The main focus of the project will be the schools highlighting the daily themes with the children and for them to create a dialogue with their parents. Who at the same time will be encouraged, from the community side, to become involved in the project. Whilst the 10 day count down is running with its daily ‘theme’ a separate ‘Community Contribution’ is working in support of the project linked to the ‘Daily Theme.’
Each day (see separate sheet) a different part of the community is highlighted and covers the project raising awareness from; what the local schools are carrying out in their own way; to the MoD’s big clean up behind the wire; to support from the local businesses; to the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust – how to achieve a greener environment; to the Police on Enforcement, and so on covering a wide range of subjects, all aimed at being informative and geared to educate on issues relating to the environment with an outcome of measures that will enhance our area.
In conjunction with the 10 day countdown we are going to have some fun and we are going to sponsor the schools as well as individuals to write a RAP song, Limerick, Ditty, Rhyme or Poem that must be linked to the subject that is relevant or amusing, and deals with some of the following subjects: Rubbish, Black Boxes, Refuse, Fly Tipping, Litter, Global Warming etc. We will give a prize to the winner of £30.to each of the 5 local schools and a £25 prize to the best two individual winners over 16 and under 16.
One of the main objectives is that we want to carry out a Black Box survey and we have recruited the schools to help with the children taking home a questionnaire which has questions about the black box, how green is your home, and who is using the system. Our aim is to increase the recycling output for our area and raise the overall awareness.
We feel sure that the RAP project will create some community spirit, raise awareness and hopefully motivate people to create a better environment for all.
