Wintery weather set to continue
People in Wiltshire are being urged to take care this weekend, particularly if they
are travelling, with more snow and strong winds forecast.
Moderate snow falls throughout the weekend, together with strong winds and freezing
temperatures, means roads and pavements will remain hazardous.
Wiltshire Council will continue to work to salt and clear roads and pavements where
possible over the weekend but pedestrians and motorists are urged to take care and
to consider whether the journey is absolutely necessary.
While most council services are currently running normally it is likely there may be
some disruption to services following any further snow falls. Information about
changes to services will continue to be publicised through the council’s website at
www.wiltshire.gov.uk
Schools
Many schools have now reopened but parents are advised to continue listening to
local radio stations such as BBC Wiltshire -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/wiltshire/hi/, Castledown Radio 104.7 - www.castledownradio.info, Heart FM - www.heartwilts.co.uk, Spire FM
- http://www.spirefm.co.uk/ and Three Towns Radio - www.3trfm.com on Monday,
particularly if there are more snow falls over the weekend.
Household Waste
People are being urged to leave out their household waste bins and the council will
attempt to collect them when it is safe to do so.
The council is planning to open the household recycling centres in Amesbury,
Devizes, Honeyball (near Compton Bassett), Melksham, Purton, Salisbury, Stanton St
Quintin, Trowbridge and Warminster on Saturday and Sunday. They should be available
to the public from 9am until 4pm.
However, the council is still advising people to only make journeys they consider
essential and it would encourage people to heed warnings on travelling conditions
over the weekend.
As more snow is expected, the individual sites will have to make a
judgement as to whether they can continue to open on Sunday.
With the weather expected to remain cold and with the wind picking up, people are
urged to continue keeping an eye on vulnerable neighbours and friends to check they
are alright.
People can find out more about the weather from the Met Office by following this
link (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/sw/sw_forecast_warnings.html) and by
listening to their local radio station.
