Sports enthusiasts gathered together last weekend to enjoy the sunshine and celebrate the opening of the refurbished multi use games area in Collingbourne Ducis.
The Village Hall Committee applied for grants to refurbish the area, obtaining funds from Awards for All, the Local Network Fund, Sustain the Plain and other smaller grant pots.
Many local people will benefit from the facility including tennis players, local primary schools and young people in the village. Hopefully it will also encourage the development of more sports clubs in the area, including netball which proved very popular on the opening Saturday.
Clare Draper (Leisure Development Officer) said: “After filling out a few grant forms we now have a great facility for the community! We are hoping to get some activities up and running for young people with the support from the village hall committee. I would like to say a big thank you to Rob Harrison for all his commitment to the project”.
Cllr Paula Winchcombe (Leisure, Arts and Health Champion) said: “It’s wonderful to see local communities working together, especially on such a worthwhile project where the outcome helps improve the health and wellbeing of the community”.
