Teams of Scouts from across Salisbury Plain got together to compete for the honour of entering a county cooking competition.
1st Tidworth Scouts
Members of 2nd Bulford, 1st Shrewton and 1st Tidworth Scouts, all based in the Salisbury Plain District, got together to cook their way in to the County Cooking Competition. Three teams were set the task of planning, buying and cooking a meal for four people. They were given a budget of £15.00, and chose a theme based on a charity of their choice.
The teams of four were judged by two independent Army Chefs, who were very impressed with the menus, and even asked permission to use a couple of the dishes in the Officers Mess!
Winners All
Two of the teams started the meal with soup as a starter, with one team offering a smoked salmon salad. Main courses included chicken, 1st Tidworth serving it with pasta twists and 2nd Bulford going for a bed of rice with stir-fry vegetables. 1st Shrewton chose a main course of Tuna steak.
The young chefs', aged from 10 to 14 thoroughly enjoyed themselves, all working hard as teams, with no accidents with sharp knives or gas cookers! At the end of the day, 9 points, out of a possible two hundred, separated the three teams, with 1st Tidworth the eventual winners.
