Ludgershall Sports Youth Football Results for Sunday 6th January 2008

South Wilts and Badger League Cup Quarter Final:

Alderbury FC U14 0 v Ludgershall Sports U14 4

Sports U14 started the new year with a near perfect display, with all he fourteen man squad contributing to an excellent commanding performance. The thawing conditions made for sticky underfoot onditions, but the visitor's coped best. Ludgershall put Alderbury under pressure from the start and Chris Paddy converted to open the scoring. Sports continued to press forward and the newly formed potent strike force of Curtis Tough and Cole Hinchliffe were denied on several occasions, including twice by the woodwork. Ben Hollis and Craig Stephens were solid in defence, allowing Jake Reeve free to navigate round mid-field, at last a through ball from Jake was latched onto and Cole rounded the keeper to slot into an empty net. Brad Hollis in Sports goal was in inspirational form, and in the closing minutes of the first half produced an outstanding save to deny Alderbury and maintain Ludgershall's 2 - 0 half time lead. The second half was a repeat with Sports earning two early corners, reward came from a Curtis Tough cross banged home for Cole's second. Matthew Collins hit a stunning volley as the ball was cleared only to see the ball sail fractionally over the bar. With George Argyrou and his other defender's dominant Alderbury never looked likely to score. The Curtis / Cole combination struk again as Cole Hinchliffe grabbed his hat trick and Sports fourth. Everyone played their part as Ludgershall marched into the cup semi finals.

Ludgershall Sports U12 0 v Warminster Juniors FC U12 8

Top of the table Warminster Juniors made the long trek to Astor Crescent and displayed the form and class as the team of the under 12 league. The way defence was disciplined and stood solid as Sports tried to push forward, Ludgershall's chances were minimal with only a Luke Bates effort threatening the visitor's goal, A deserved 4 - 0 half time lead as just reward for Junior's efforts. Sport's adapted a different approach with Luke Coomber playing in a sweeper's role, Harry Lawton and Daniel Britten in defence and Aston Davies in midfield all performing well and Ludgershall never gave up the chase, however Warminster's strength in the second half saw the game disappear from Ludgershall's grasp and despite Jordan Padgett making several excellent saves the pressure told as Junior's doubled their advantage with four more second half goals. The class of the opposition could not be denied as they ran away with the points and remain on course for the title.

Ludgershall Sports U10B 0 v West Harnham FC U10 15

Sports U10B started brightly but the match soon became a one sided affair. West Harnham consolidated their mid-table position with a comfortable victory over Independent Bookmaker's sponsored Sports U10B. The Christmas and New Year break, together with postponements contributed to Sports lack of match practice and fitness, which showed as West Harnham controlled the game. Their dominant attack, helped by the lack of any offside rule in this age group culminated in a comprehensive Harnham victory, the long ball behind the defender's with a waiting striker being Sport's undoing as they failed to 'man mark' the opposition attack. Curtis Topham and Craig Britten put in their normal 100% commitment but stamina in the team ran out. The visitor's
thoroughly deserved their victory and the points.
