Locals honoured at Tidworth Community Area Awards 2005
“I am absolutely ‘gob-smacked'! My legs froze beneath me and I couldn’t quite register what was happening.” Words spoken by Tidworth and South Ludgershall District Councillor, Mr Peter Colling, after receiving the award for ‘Outstanding work in the community’.
With thirty-three nominations, Ludgershall’s Memorial Hall was packed to the brim as Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mr John Bush OBE made the presentations.
Other special awards given included The Tidworth Development Trust Shield, a brand new award given to Hilary Hollingsworth, TDT community development worker for her outstanding contribution to the community area.
A Community Shield, for fostering community well-being in the area went to Mr and Mrs Wally and Barbara Long from Upper Chute. The Paul Oatway ‘Extra Mile’ Shield, for long term impact on the youth in the community and recognising those whose inspiration has encouraged others over and above ‘the day job’, went to Tina Evans, Head Teacher of Zouch School, Tidworth and The Environment Shield for impact on the environment went to Ann Bernard and her volunteer team for The Great Mere Project.
