Kennet District Council has joined forces with local police to crack down on people who litter their community. It forms of part of the ‘Keep Kennet Clean and Safe Campaign’, which is being run over a three week-long period in three different locations.
From 10th April, streets and amenity areas in Tidworth will be patrolled by Kennet District Council staff and local police officers, who will give on the spot fines of £50 to anyone found dropping litter.
These patrols will tackle anti-social behaviour and street scene offences, such as dropping cigarette butts and fly tipping.
Abandoned supermarket trolleys are also being targeted, with the team providing a shopping trolley removal service. Trolley owners will be reminded of their responsibilities to collect them and will gain advice on preventative measures.
The campaign runs alongside the Kennet District Council’s ‘Community Litter Pick Up Scheme’ which gives local groups and schools the opportunity to hire out litter picking equipment. The Council has litter-picking equipment that can be loaned to any community group, street watch group, neighbourhood watch or school in the district.
