Garrison
Drive-In
Soldiers, families and civilians are gearing up to
"Drive-In" for a movie experience at two of Britain's largest Army bases. A
first in both Aldershot and the Salisbury Plain, the movie "Grease" will air on
the 29th April at Carter Barracks, Bulford and on the 30th
April at Montgomery Lines, Aldershot. The event has been organised by Garrison FM
to raise funds for the Army's national charity the Army Benevolent Fund.
As dusk descends on both venues, hundreds of cars
will turn off their headlights and tune in their radios to 101.2 FM for the
soundtrack, as they watch a large screen showing John Travolta and Olivia
Newton John go through their paces in "Grease".
Garrison Radio's Managing Director, Mark Page, said
this was a first for the Army community in each location. "Not only are we set
for a great night's entertainment but it's also a welcome back for soldiers
after deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq last year. Fundraising on the
night will be for the ABF which is close to the hearts of those in the Army
world."
A radio roadshow with games, competition and plenty
of participation will precede the movie. Garrison FM is urging those coming
along to arrive in plenty of time and to make sure that their car battery is in
good order. Mark Page said, "Organisers of these events round UK have said
flat-batteries at the end of a good night's Drive-In movie, can lead to
disappointment so make sure you are fully charged on arrival!"
