Friday Night Squash Mix-In at Tidworth Leisure Centre
Tidworth Leisure Centre opened its doors on Friday 2nd February, to a host of keen squash players enticed to promote squash at its local centre. Twelve weeks on the centre is on the verge of starting leagues and developing a club. With the full support of England Squash and Andrew May, Full Time Recreation Assistant, things are certainly looking good.
Matt Baker, England Squash Area Manager said
"I am delighted with the hard work that is going on in Tidworth. It is a fantastic opportunity for both competitive players and social players to combine and share skills. The facilities here are one of the best in the South West, if not, the country. Squash popularity has dipped in recent years but is once again on the increase. We have many junior clubs and junior county teams that have begun to shine. This is what we would like to see at Tidworth."
The next step for Tidworth Leisure Centre is to enjoy visits from County teams and Inter-County matches including starting there own leagues and developing in to a club. Andrew May said
"As a keen squash player myself I am delighted that squash has been so successful here. I am now looking to start junior and adult coaching sessions on Saturday mornings at the Leisure Centre." Andrew's dedication has boosted the Mix-in numbers to 29 on the books, and has shown both commitment and dedication on the way."
Mark Smith, Director of Environment and Leisure Services added
"Kennet is very happy to support this activity, raising the profile for such a good cause. Kennet continues to be committed to supporting such activities to engage all the community in activities that lead to personal development".
