All responsible smokers will need an environmentally friendly and safe way to dispose of their cigarette stubs and Kennet District Council has the answer. Smokers across the district can get a FREE pouch to store their stubs in.
The Council are encouraging local people to think about where they stub out their cigarettes after the smoking ban comes into force on 1st July and are providing an anti-litter pouch to members of the public for FREE.
The ‘Stubbi' is a compact pouch that fits neatly into a pocket or bag and has been designed to provide smokers with a clean, safe and convenient way to dispose of cigarette butts wherever they are. The pouch also holds paper wrappers to dispose of chewing gum.
Kennet District Council has 3,000 Stubbies to giveaway, which they hope will help to reduce litter from cigarette butts and chewing gum. They can be picked up NOW from council offices, tourist information centres and boots stores in Marlborough and Devizes. They are also available from the ‘Smoke Free Action Week' roadshows being held on the following dates and venues:
- Monday 2nd July - Tidworth, Station Road and Ludgershall Library
- Tuesday 3rd July - Pewsey Market, Bouverie Hall
- Wednesday 4th July - Marlborough Market
- Thursday 5th July - Devizes, Brittox
As well as being able to pick up a FREE Stubbi help will also be on hand at the roadshows for people who want to stop smoking. People will also be able to enter a competition to win a balloon ride in each town and to meet their local neighbourhood policing team.
Councillor Peter Evans, Member Champion for the Environment said:
"Many people simply don't think of cigarette butts as litter and are happy to throw them on the ground, making our streets look untidy. It is great that local smokers can obtain these anti-litter pouches for free and use them wherever they go, which will help to keep Kennet litter free".
