Council joint working with Rural Needs Initiative to promote recycling
Officers from Kennet District Council have been working with Rural Needs Initiative during the last eighteen months to encourage parents in Tidworth and Ludgershall to recycle.
Throughout the recent introduction of Alternate Weekly Collections, Kennet officers have provided information and advice to mothers attending the Time for You sessions about the changes occurring to the Council's refuse and recycling collection service as well as giving practical guidance about waste minimisation, including home composting, the use of real nappies and how to reduce junk mail.
Mark Smith, 'Director of Environment and Leisure Services' said: "The Council recognised that many families in the Tidworth and Ludgershall areas were affiliated to the Ministry of Defence and therefore that wives of servicemen would be primarily affected by the new services. By working with Rural Needs Initiative, the Council has been able to solve issues and problems before they arise."
Betty Dobson, Strategic Manager of Rural Needs Initiative added: "The presence of Kennet District Council officers at the Time for You sessions has helped new residents to get to grips with the new Alternate Weekly Collections. Many mothers are now confidently recycling because of the support and advice that has been given.
