Collingbourne Cricket Club is aware that the growth of any cricket club depends on the number and quality of the juniors they can attract and feed into their league teams.
To this end this progressive club hosted their first District Kwik Cricket Festival on Thursday 7th June 2007at Collingbourne Cricket Club. Not only did the club provide their superb facilities but also six club members to assist the fourteen students from Castledown School to umpire and score the matches as well as giving any impromptu coaching.
One hundred and twenty children from eleven schools took part in the event which was the culmination of weeks of coaching provided by local clubs and cricket and multi skills community coaches.
Amanda Cox (Kennet District Council Leisure Development Officer) and Steve Silk (Wiltshire Cricket Development Manager) who were the organisers of the event were very impressed with the commitment of the club and the level of the cricket on display.
Councillor, Mrs Paula Winchcombe (Member Champion for Recreation and sports) said:
"What a fabulous day, a really good turnout from local schools and fantastic help from both Castledown School and Collingbourne Cricket Club - excellent."
David Patterson (Chairman - Collingbourne Cricket Club) presented medals to both the winners and runners up and a competition shield that will be presented each year.
The winners and runners up were:
1st Great Bedwyn - who go through to the ECB County Finals
2nd Clarendon - who go through to the Wiltshire Youth Games
