The first ever British Tourism Week takes place between 12th - 18th
March and the tourism team at Kennet District
Council's Visitor Centre in Devizes are planning a series of promotions
throughout the week to publicise the attractions, activities and businesses
within the town to celebrate the event.
British Tourism Week
is a national event which is raising awareness of the size, value and
importance of Britain's
£74 billion visitor economy. Recent research undertaken
by South West Tourism has shown that the economic impact of tourism to the
Kennet district is worth £87,000,000 and supports the equivalent of 2,000 full
time jobs.
The visitor centre is working in partnership with local organisations to
raise awareness of and celebrate what is on our doorstep - from canal boat trips and ghost walks, to our
medieval history and local beer!
A programme of events is being finalised for the week which will include
a Devizes heritage walk, lectures by local historians, a ghost walk and themed
days in association with local businesses. The Fountain festival finale in
Devizes Market Place on Saturday 17th March will round up the weeks
activities.
