Collingbourne Kingston is among several villages and towns set to benefit from funding allocated by the government’s Housing Corporation to provide new affordable housing in the Kennet district over the next two financial years.
Together with £1 million, Kennet Council is budgeting for grant aid; which means that Devizes-based Sarsen Housing Association will have funding to provide 104 new affordable homes. Of these 62 will be for rent and 42 for sale under a new ‘Homebuy’ scheme.
Among the schemes to benefit will be the redevelopment of Aston House in Pewsey with extra care sheltered homes for elderly people and homes to rent and buy at Le Marchant Barracks in Devizes. Other village schemes will also get help, including Rowde, Froxfield and Great Cheverell.
Councillor Janet Giles, Kennet’s housing champion, said: “This is great news for the many people, young and old, who are relying on new provision by housing associations to give them the opportunity of a decent home. It is clear that Kennet’s contribution has encouraged the Housing Corporation to give us this boost and we’re very grateful for their help. We will now work closely with Sarsen to help them deliver the goods.”
