Dozens of children from the Tidworth Community Area recently took part in one of the biggest sporting events for young people.

The Wiltshire Youth Games took place at Bath University and saw almost 1000 youngsters from across Wiltshire and Swindon take part in competitive sporting events, ranging from Athletics to Rugby.

Now in its seventh year, the games is organised by the Wiltshire & Swindon Activity and Sport Partnership (WASP) and is part of the Sport England County Partnership Programmes.

“The games provide the opportunity for young people to take part in a large-scale event, whilst providing a positive sporting experience and encouraging them to continue to play sport,” said Salisbury District Council’s principle sports development officer, Louise Cary.

Hundreds of children packed the main arena to listen to James Thie, one of Britain’s Olympic hopefuls.

He delivered a speech packed full of inspiration and encouragement and after an official warm-up by a prefessional fitness instructor - the children were left excited and keen to get on with the days events.
