Mountain biking and a mobile skateboarding park are set to join the many exciting sporting opportunities available for young people in the Tidworth Community Area.

Thursday, 27th April saw the official launch of a brand new adventurous sports club aimed at providing alternative activities for 11 to 18 year olds.

The T2a Club has been up and running since March, and thanks to £22,000 worth of funding from the Big Lottery Fund, youngsters have already received awards for their indoor climbing skills.

Clare Draper, the Leisure Development officer for Kennet District Council, said: “T2a has got off to an excellent start with 25 members already. The indoor climbing has been very successful and thanks to the MoD allowing us to use their facilities at Tidworth Leisure Centre, members have been able to receive the awards presented to them today.”

Supported by Tidworth Development Trust and Kennet District Council, the scheme was set up in response to various consultations, which identified the need to provide activities for young people in the local area.

“It’s super to come and visit the club and see the children in action. Well done to staff at Kennet District Council and Tidworth Development Trust for their vision in asking young people what they want and then responding with this fantastic club.” said Cllr Peter Richardson, Chairman of Kennet District Council, who was among invited guests including the new Garrison Commander for Tidworth, Richard Aubrey-Fletcher.

Those interested in getting involved can join T2a for a fee of £5 giving members a reduced 'pay as you go fee' of only £1 and a FREE hoodie! Non-members can still join in at a cost of £2 per session.
